In this day and age keeping up with news and media trends is crucial, especially during a nationwide pandemic. There are many different websites and news sources that I enjoy using to keep myself up to date. I have found that these easy to access sources provide me with exactly what I am looking for, and that they are truthful and reliable. Although I don't necessarily check these news outlets daily, I do look to them when searching for breaking news, and when I have a moment to read or watch their posts. 

1.     Fox News

The first news source that I would recommend using is Fox News. I grew up watching Fox News with my family, so I have always just turned to them when I need information on politics and current events in our government. Personally, I share a lot of the same beliefs that Fox News covers, so it is way more enjoyable for me to watch. By watching a source that shares a common set of beliefs and values, I find it easier to trust the source and connect with it. I also enjoy the reporters on Fox, my favorite is Tucker Carlson. I would definitely recommend Fox News if you are searching for a new place to get your news and media. 





2.     Entertainment Tonight

The second outlet that I get my news and media from is Entertainment Tonight. Entertainment Tonight is one of my favorite television shows to watch when I need current events on celebrity’s and pop culture. I find this source so entertaining, and Entertainment tonight always has really good stories and gossip about the latest movies, television shows, and celebrities. I would definitely recommend watching Entertainment Tonight if you are looking for a news source that provides current, and entertaining content on pop culture. 



3.     Instagram

I also get a lot of my information off of Instagram. Instagram is a really good place for teenagers and people my age to get information on any topic because we can follow new sources and people so easily. I also enjoy getting my news off of Instagram because a lot of my followers share the same interests as I do, and I can find new content creators through the people I am already following. On the other hand, I am also exposed to new content and options that overall help me become more educated on new topics I may not have heard or been exposed to before. A couple of my favorite people to follow on Instagram that believe the best news are Fox News, Buzzfeed, and the New York Times. 



4.     BuzzFeed

Going along with my previous post, I also utilize BuzzFeed as a place to get news. I follow Buzzfeed on all of my social media platforms, like Instagram, Facebook, twitter and even snapchat! BuzzFeed provides very current and up to date news on pop culture and trending topics. I know whenever I update BuzzFeed there will be a new story and it is always something new and entertaining. I also know I can trust BuzzFeed to provide truthful coverage. They have a really good reputation among digital news and media platforms and I really enjoy reading and catching myself up with BuzzFeed.




5.     Penn Live

My last and most personal news network is Penn Live. Penn Live is a local news outlet that provides people (like me) living in central Pennsylvania with all the local news happing around town. My family and friends love checking Penn Live because a lot of times of people we know will be featured for sports or academic achievements. My younger sister is often featured for her stellar performance in Golf, and it’s so fun getting sent articles written about her. Penn Live is also great for finding out things going on around town, weather it’s a town hall meeting, or yard sales, Penn Live covers it all. I would definitely recommend using Penn Live if you live in Central Pennsylvania to get local news that’s close to home.

     My Social Footprint From a very young age I was always taught to be careful what I was posting on social media. My mom and dad would tell me "be careful what you post because it is not temporary, and is forever!" The more I think about that statement, the more it starts to make sense. For example, you post a picture, but 5 minutes later change your mind. .  Hundreds of people could have seen it, screen shotted it, and even though you deleted it, its still floating around out there somewhere. Privacy in this day and age is something that is taken very seriously, but is also something many people know little about. Social media and technology has become something we use everyday, and it's so important that we know and are inducted about what we are giving out when we use technology or social media. After watching many different TED Talks about the digital age and the treat it can pose on on individuals, its become more clear that the government, and anybody with an education in technology/coding can access information we thought was private.  One TED Talk that stood out to me personally was by Darieth Chisolm, who focused her presentation on "Revenge Porn" or digital harassment. She opened up with a very personal story about how her ex boyfriend created and shared naked pictures of her from Jamaica after she ended the controlling relationship. 8 values of Free Expression // Key Post

     In class there was a discussion of the 8 values of free expression. These speech theories include the marketplace of free ideas, participation in  self-government, stable change, individual self-fulfillment, check on governmental power, promote tolerance, promote innovation and lastly protect dissent. From my understanding, all of these values are how we understand and utilize our right to free speech or the first amendment.      The question of which one resonates the most with me is "promote innovation." Promoting innovation is "a community in which free speech is values and protected is like to be a more energized, creative, interesting society as its citizens actively  fulfill themselves in many diverse and interesting ways." I personally resonate with this value of free expression because I really agree with constantly growing and evolving as a person, and as a society.
