Protecting Data and Privacy in the Cloud: Part 1 - Microsoft Security

Privacy in this day and age is something that is taken very seriously, but is also something many people know little about. Social media and technology has become something we use everyday, and it's so important that we know and are inducted about what we are giving out when we use technology or social media. After watching many different TED Talks about the digital age and the treat it can pose on on individuals, its become more clear that the government, and anybody with an education in technology/coding can access information we thought was private.

One TED Talk that stood out to me personally was by Darieth Chisolm, who focused her presentation on "Revenge Porn" or digital harassment. She opened up with a very personal story about how her ex boyfriend created and shared naked pictures of her from Jamaica after she ended the controlling relationship. There was really nothing that she could do herself, so she decided to get the government involved, which meant sharing the private pictures with the investigative team. After 13 trips to the courthouse and thousands spent on attorneys, Darieth heard back from the Jamaican government and the website was removed and her harasser was arrested against the malicious communications act. Her case was the fist of its kind, making history for people harassed from international websites and places.

What really touched me about this TED Talk was what Darieth did after she got justice. By using her platform and voice, she created a non-profit called "50 Shades of Justice." This project is focused on victims similar to herself and sharing their stories to rase awareness. It also focuses on the victims mental health, their empowerment and how they can get through this terrible thing that happened to them.

Anything can be shared online, and it is a very extensive process to get it removed, and clear your name from the damage that was done. It's hard for me to look at this and hear the story and wonder how she can trust anybody after her controlling ex tired to ruin her life. How do you be more careful? How do you sleep with one eye open and protect yourself from this happening again? How do you make it so the government cant track you and get your personal information through your phone?
